Villagers Submit Deputation to Police Over NC Nagar Gold Smuggling Murder Case

Villagers Submit Deputation to Police Over NC Nagar Gold Smuggling Murder Case NEBT News Desk, Agartala, 15th September: Tension continues in NC Nagar under Sonamura subdivision over the murder of 22-year-old youth Soleman Hossain, who was killed six days ago in connection with a gold smuggling racket near the Indo-Bangladesh border. On Monday, villagers of NC Nagar submitted a deputation at Sonamura Police Station demanding justice and immediate arrests of all accused. They also met with Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das to express their grievances. So far, police have arrested only one accused, Roksana Begum, alleged mastermind of the gold smuggling racket. She was in police custody for three days and is currently in judicial custody. However, the remaining seven accused named in the FIR are absconding. Police claim that soon after the incident came to light last Wednesday, angry locals vandalized the houses of the accused, giving them an opportunity to flee. According to police, the murder was linked to a dispute over gold smuggling across the border. Three days before the incident, Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly threw gold biscuits worth ₹1.20 crore over the border fencing. Soleman was supposed to collect them, but his family claims he never received the consignment, leading to mistrust and ultimately his murder. Soleman’s mother Jahanara Begum, devastated after losing her only son, also joined the villagers in demanding justice and punishment for all accused.
