Tripura Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorm Warnings Issued for Coming Days

Agartala, September 30, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Agartala, has issued an evening bulletin warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over various districts of Tripura. The alert comes as an upper air cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to form a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours, which may intensify into a depression by October 2 and cross the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast by the morning of October 3. Weather Forecast and Warnings for Tripura: October 1, 2025: Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at many places across Tripura. Heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) is expected at one or two locations in North, Unakoti, Gomati, and South districts. Thunderstorms with lightning are also predicted. October 2–4, 2025: Light to moderate rain/thundershowers will continue at many places. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning are likely in select areas, particularly in West, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura. October 5–7, 2025: Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are expected at a few places, with no major warnings issued. Impact and Precautions: Localized flooding may occur in low-lying urban areas, causing temporary disruption to municipal services such as water supply and electricity. Roads may face closures, slippery conditions, and reduced visibility. Tourists visiting hilly or wildlife areas may experience temporary access issues. Strong winds and hail associated with thunderstorms could damage crops, plantation, horticulture, vulnerable structures, and power lines. Recommended Actions: Residents should stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces, unplug electrical appliances, and refrain from traveling if possible. Farmers are advised to suspend operations during severe weather and take precautions to protect crops and livestock. Local authorities are urged to deploy emergency teams, clear blockages, and ensure timely communication of road and flood conditions. The Meteorological Centre has urged people to remain vigilant and follow official advisories through the MAUSAM, Meghdoot, and Damini apps for location-specific weather, agromet advisories, and lightning warnings. Maximum Temperature Alert: Agartala recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4°C, appreciably above normal. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against heat.
