Tripura to Complete Six More Eklavya Model Residential Schools by March 2026: CM Manik Saha

EMRS to Preserve Tribal Culture and Promote Quality Education, Says CM Agartala, Oct 9: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha announced today that the state government will complete six more Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) by March 2026, aimed at preserving tribal culture, language, and promoting education among ST students. Dr. Saha made the announcement after inaugurating a 480-seater EMRS at Pravapur, Jampuijala. He said EMRS, a flagship program of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, provides quality education, sports, and skill development opportunities to tribal students from Classes 6 to 12. “Since 2014, under PM Modi’s leadership, EMRS has expanded across India, providing holistic development to tribal students in rural areas. In Tripura, 21 EMRS were sanctioned, and 12 have already started. Around 480 students will soon take admission in the Jampuijala school, and free boarding, uniforms, books, and coaching classes are provided,” said Dr. Saha. He added that Tripura has been declared a fully literate state and EMRS will help preserve tribal culture and history while reducing student dropouts. “Students graduating from EMRS will act as agents of social, economic, and cultural development,” he noted. By March 2026, the six new EMRS will be constructed in Ampi, Hezamara, Amarpur, Chawmau, Mandwai, and Manu, bringing the total capacity to over 10,000 students. So far, 2,475 students have enrolled in existing EMRS, with nearly equal participation of male and female students. Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Secretary K. Sasikumar, Tribal Welfare Director Subhasis Das, Sepahijala DM Sidharth Shiv Jaiswal, and SP Namit Pathak were present during the event.
