Tripura Professor Accused of Bigamy, Extramarital Affair and Domestic Violence; Tension in Locality

NEBT News Desk | Agartala | 7th September Agartala witnessed fresh controversy after serious allegations of bigamy, extramarital affair, cheating and domestic violence surfaced against a professor of Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir, Dr. Sandeep Saha. According to reports, Dr. Saha married Suma Dutta of Dhaleshwar about five years ago at Mahakaleshwar Ujan. The couple initially lived in Ranibazar and shared a normal marital life. However, in recent months, Dr. Saha allegedly became involved in an illicit relationship with a widow who also has a child, which strained his marital life. When Suma Dutta demanded recognition and respect as his wife, she was reportedly subjected to harassment and abuse. At one stage, police had even taken Dr. Saha into custody following her complaints, though he later returned home, leaving his wife abandoned. Despite repeated attempts, Suma Dutta failed to re-establish contact with her husband. Recently, when she went to meet him at his residence on Ramthakur Boys’ School Road, she was allegedly insulted and driven out by Dr. Saha’s father, triggering chaos in the area. Locals further alleged that years ago, Suma had introduced herself to them as a physiotherapist, which later turned out to be false. The situation escalated when locals detained both Suma Dutta and Dr. Saha, handing them over to the police. A sensational revelation also came to light: in 2021, Dr. Saha had secretly married Suma Dutta while she was still a B.Ed student at Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir, where Saha was serving as a professor. The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the locality. All eyes are now on how the police and the Education Department proceed with action against the accused professor.
