Tripura Only State to Hold Exhibition on New Criminal Laws: CM Justice Must Be Timely to Maintain Faith in Legal System: CM New Criminal Laws Ensure Transparency and Citizen-Friendly Reforms: CM

NEBT News Desk Agartala, 10th September Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today said that Tripura is the only state in the country to have organized an exhibition on the three new criminal laws, which will play a crucial role in the judicial process in the future. Inaugurating the state-level exhibition at the Indoor Exhibition Hall, Agartala, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that citizens are already benefiting from the implementation of these laws. He emphasized that timely delivery of justice is essential to maintain people’s faith in the legal system. “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these historic laws came into effect on July 1, 2024. Important discussions were also held in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding their effective implementation. Tripura has been proactive in this regard and has taken significant measures,” said the Chief Minister. Highlighting Tripura’s leading role at the national level, Dr. Saha said, “This five-day exhibition has been organized to give people a detailed understanding of the three new criminal laws. Tripura is the only state where such an initiative has been undertaken.” He further added that the new criminal laws have introduced citizen-friendly reforms to ensure transparency and efficiency. Provisions now allow citizens to submit reports electronically without visiting police stations, lodge Zero FIRs from anywhere, and ensure prompt communication with family members in case of arrest. Special emphasis has been placed on cases concerning women and children, mandating investigations within two months and guaranteeing free hospital treatment for victims. Dr. Saha also pointed out that forensic teams will play a crucial role in crime investigation under the new system. He stressed that reforms and deregulations are being carried out across all sectors to modernize laws that had remained unchanged since the colonial era. MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, DGP Anurag, Home Secretary Abhishek Singh, ADG M. Raja Murugan, G.S. Rao, and other senior officials were present as distinguished guests at the event.
