Tension in Kailashahar over Congress-Called Strike: Allegations of Vandalism and Bribery

Tension gripped Kailashahar on Wednesday during a 12-hour strike called by the Unakoti District Congress. The bandh witnessed incidents of vehicle vandalism, assault on drivers, and even allegations of bribery against the police. According to reports, several vehicles were attacked, and drivers alleged that they were beaten by miscreants while passing through bandh-affected areas. One driver claimed that police at a checkpoint had taken bribes but failed to inform them about the bandh, following which their vehicle was vandalized and they were assaulted. The situation led to widespread disruption, with shops remaining shut in many areas and government offices recording low attendance. Police, however, maintained that only minor incidents occurred and no major untoward situation was reported.
