Solar Technician Training Begins as Tripura Nears 5 MW Milestone Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Agartala, 20 November: Tripura is inching closer to generating five megawatts of solar power under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, marking another significant step in the state’s renewable-energy advancement. Determined to ensure seamless consumer experience, the state is now prioritizing capacity building at the grassroots level. To this end, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), in collaboration with GIZ — Germany’s renowned development agency — has launched a two-day specialized training programme for field-level solar technicians. The workshop began on Thursday at 10:30 AM at the TSECL conference hall. Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, IAS, inaugurated the programme, joined by TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu and Acting Director General (TREDA) Debabrata Shukla Das. A total of 45 technicians, all directly involved in rooftop solar installation across various vendors, commenced the training. The inaugural session emphasized that consumer satisfaction is the top priority, with Singh highlighting the need for quick and accurate resolution of technical issues. MD Basu reiterated that the long-term success of the PM Surya Ghar scheme depends on the efficiency and professionalism of technicians who interact directly with consumers. GIZ’s global expertise forms the backbone of this initiative. The organization has contributed extensively to solar PV training programmes worldwide, helping develop standard operation and maintenance guidelines. Their India-focused best-practice frameworks on system safety, monitoring, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting have shaped the curriculum of this training. The workshop covers PV fundamentals, inverter and controller operations, battery management, safety protocols, installation and commissioning procedures, performance monitoring, structured maintenance, and fault diagnosis. Earlier, 53 managers from TSECL received similar GIZ-supported training at Pragya Bhavan. Further sessions for managers, vendors, and field technicians are planned. MD Basu also noted that consumers with rooftop solar installations may later receive basic awareness training to enhance their understanding and maintenance capabilities. With a balanced focus on expanding solar capacity and building a skilled workforce, Tripura is setting a steady path toward a more reliable, consumer-friendly renewable-energy ecosystem — one that promises to accelerate the state’s solar journey with strong public confidence.
