RELENTLESS CRACKDOWN: JATRA PUR POLICE DESTROYS 15,000 GANJA PLANTS IN MASSIVE OPERATION
Kathalia Correspondent | Monday, 17 November Jatrapur police under Sonamura subdivision have intensified their crackdown on illegal ganja cultivation, an issue that has long plagued the region. Despite repeated warnings from the administration, large-scale cannabis cultivation—stretching from hilly terrains to plain areas—has continued to flourish in the Jatrapur police station limits. However, with the arrival of the new Officer-in-Charge, Siti Kantha Bardhan, the scenario has begun to change significantly. Since taking charge, the OC has adopted an aggressive, no-tolerance approach toward ganja cultivators and traffickers. Under his leadership, multiple operations have been launched to dismantle the illegal trade, marking a stark departure from previous enforcement efforts. According to official records, 11 major operations have been conducted so far by the Jatrapur police, often with support from the BSF. On Monday, at around 6 AM, the police carried out yet another large-scale raid in the Kalikhala ADC Village area. In a dense forest region, the team discovered multiple plots of illegal cultivation. During the operation, approximately 15,000 ganja plants were uprooted and destroyed, confirmed the Jatrapur OC. The raid was conducted by a strong team comprising Sub-Inspector Pritam Datta, ASI Kafurai Debbarma, police constables from the station, and TSR jawans. Moving into the forest before daybreak, the combined force completed the destruction operation within 2 to 2.5 hours and returned safely. OC Bardhan stated that such operations will continue uninterrupted whenever reliable intelligence is received.
