Police Raid Illegal Country Liquor Dens in Bishalgarh

NEBT News Desk, Agartala, 17th September: Bishalgarh Police carried out a major raid on illegal country liquor factories at East Champamura on Wednesday afternoon. Acting on a tip-off, Bishalgarh Police Station OC Vijay Das directed a team led by Sub-Inspector Rammohan Debbarma and Assistant Sub-Inspector Arun Debbarma, accompanied by TSR personnel, to raid the houses of Gauranga Shil and Chandana Debbarma. During the raid, police seized around 170 liters of illicit country-made liquor, along with rotten rice and other equipment used for brewing. The liquor units were subsequently destroyed on the spot. According to police sources, both Gauranga Shil and Chandana Debbarma had been engaged in large-scale production of illicit liquor, allegedly supplying it to local youths and causing severe social issues in the area. During the operation, Chandana Debbarma reportedly confronted the police, questioning why raids were not conducted in ADC areas where liquor production is also rampant. Police, however, clarified that her illegal activities were directly harming the youth of the locality. Sub-Inspector Rammohan Debbarma informed the media that a case under the Tripura Excise Act would be registered against the accused. Bishalgarh Police further stated that such anti-liquor operations will continue in the coming days to curb illegal brewing and safeguard the community.
