Major Fire Averted at Champamura Market; Shop Owner Injured
Agartala, September 27: A devastating fire was narrowly averted at Champamura Market under Kamalasagar Assembly Constituency on Saturday morning. According to reports, the incident occurred at Haha Varieties shop owned by Bhabotosh Saha. As part of his daily routine, the shop owner lit incense sticks inside the shop but left them unattended. Due to negligence, the burning incense suddenly triggered a fire inside the shop. On noticing the flames, Bhabotosh Saha raised an alarm, drawing the attention of other traders in the market. While trying to douse the fire in his own shop, he sustained injuries. Local traders immediately rushed in and began efforts to bring the fire under control. The Bishalgarh Fire Service was informed, and a fire engine was dispatched. However, its arrival was delayed as several vehicles belonging to a private school near Uttam Bhakta Chaumuni created a traffic jam on the way. By the time fire personnel reached the spot, local traders had already managed to control the blaze. Hearing the news, Sepahijala Zilla Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Dutta rushed to Champamura Market. Thanks to the swift response of the traders, a major fire disaster across the market was prevented. Speaking to the media, the son of the affected shop owner, who is also an office bearer of the market committee, estimated that goods worth around ₹1 lakh were destroyed in the incident. Meanwhile, Bishalgarh Police also reached the spot and have started investigating the matter.
