Important Seminar Held in Tripura on EV Charging and Power System Preparedness on Energy Conservation Day
Agartala, December 13 On the occasion of Energy Conservation Day, an important seminar focusing on future preparedness for electric vehicles (EVs) and the power distribution system in Tripura was held at the auditorium of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The seminar, titled “EV Charging: A DISCOM Perspective,” was organized on Friday by the Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre, in collaboration with TSECL. The programme was chaired by Engineer Parmananda Sarkar Banerjee, Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre. In his welcome address, he stated that India’s EV ecosystem is undergoing rapid transformation, with power systems and distribution utilities playing a central role in this change. He emphasized that e-mobility is not merely a reform in the transport sector, but also a major opportunity to enhance grid stability, adopt smart technologies, and strengthen a sustainable energy system. The keynote address was delivered by Engineer Biswajit Basu, Managing Director of TSECL, as the guest of honour. Backed by data and statistics, he presented the current scenario of EV adoption in Tripura and across India. He noted that demand for charging infrastructure will rise sharply in the coming days, bringing new operational challenges for power distribution companies. Referring to policy frameworks, regulatory provisions, and government incentives, he said that TSECL is preparing for EV integration in alignment with national objectives. This was followed by a detailed technical presentation by Professor (Dr.) Priyanath Das of the Department of Electrical Engineering, NIT Agartala. In his presentation on “Impact of EV Charging Stations on Radial Distribution Networks,” he offered an in-depth analysis of voltage stability, network loading, and optimal site selection for chargers. Experts opined that his proposed solution based on an EV Allocation Index would provide valuable guidance for future planning. Pradip Sutradhar, Additional General Manager of TSECL, explained in simple terms how EV charging affects electricity demand patterns, feeder design, and load management, offering a practical perspective for engineers and policymakers. Additionally, Swapan Debbarma, General Manager (Technical), TSECL, highlighted the progress of ongoing EV-related projects and initiatives in Agartala, presenting a realistic picture of inter-departmental coordination in implementation. At the conclusion of the programme, Mita Saha, Additional General Manager of TSECL, delivered the vote of thanks, stating that the insights and analyses shared during the seminar would significantly contribute to shaping Tripura’s sustainable energy and EV future. Overall, the seminar further strengthened the state’s commitment to advancing green energy and electric mobility.
