Historic Anti-Ganja Operation in Sepahijala: Over 12 Lakh Cannabis Plants Destroyed in a Single Day

In a landmark anti-narcotics operation, Sepahijala district police, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijoy Debbarma, destroyed more than 12 lakh cannabis plants in a single day, marking the largest-ever ganja eradication drive in the district’s history. The massive operation was carried out on Tuesday across five police station areas—Bishalgarh, Bishramganj, Kalamchoura, Sonamura, and Melaghar. A combined force of around 500 personnel from district police, TSR, and central paramilitary units took part in the drive. According to officials, the operation began early in the morning and continued until 2 PM. SP Debbarma personally supervised the action, coordinating teams as they trekked through hilly and remote cultivation zones to clear the illicit plantations. Locals were left stunned after witnessing such a huge convoy of police and TSR personnel heading towards the highland areas where illegal ganja cultivation had been flourishing. Even the cultivators themselves were reportedly taken aback, as they had never seen such a large-scale crackdown before. Police sources confirmed that this year the state and district administrations have adopted a special mission to make Sepahijala a “Ganja-Free District.” Tuesday’s action was a major step toward achieving that goal. Speaking to the media after the operation concluded around 2:30 PM, SP Bijoy Debbarma provided detailed information about the day’s unprecedented anti-ganja drive and reiterated the administration’s firm stand against narcotics cultivation in the region.
