Headline: Tripura Shines Under the Sun: PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Crosses 4 MW Power Generation Milestone

Agartala, October 29: Tripura’s skies are not just bright with sunlight—they’re now glowing with a new ray of hope. Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the state has achieved a remarkable milestone by generating over 4 megawatts (MW) of solar power, marking a new chapter in Tripura’s renewable energy journey. So far, 16,965 residents across the state have registered under the scheme, out of which 1,210 households have already installed rooftop solar panels. These solar-powered homes are now turning sunlight into electricity every day, collectively producing over 4 MW of power—helping light up homes and reduce dependence on conventional sources. What makes this initiative even more significant is the economic empowerment it brings. Many consumers are now selling surplus electricity back to the grid, turning clean energy into a source of income. As of now, 187 beneficiaries have collectively earned ₹53,514 by selling excess power, with payments directly transferred to their bank accounts by the power corporation. Once, sunset meant darkness in many parts of Tripura. Today, the same sun has become a source of both light and livelihood. Through this initiative, Tripura has set an inspiring example—proving that the light of development isn’t confined to power poles, but also illuminates the path toward a self-reliant and sustainable future.
