Govt to Build Ring Road Around Agartala to Ease Traffic Congestion: CM Satellite Township Projects Underway in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar

Agartala, Oct 10: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today announced that the state government is developing a ring road around Agartala city to ease traffic congestion and improve urban connectivity. Speaking after inaugurating the renovation and beautification of MBB College Lake in Agartala, Dr. Saha said the government is committed to the overall development of the state, including the establishment of satellite townships in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar. The Chief Minister said the lake beautification project has been implemented under the Agartala Smart City Mission through the Urban Development Department, with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). “MBB College is a matter of pride for everyone. I also studied here during my early years. Today, through this renovation, a beautiful environment has been created, turning this area into a place of pride and recreation for the people of the state,” Dr. Saha said. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Smart City Mission has accelerated urban development in Tripura. “Agartala was included in this mission, and since then, development has gained momentum,” he stated. Highlighting the new amenities at the MBB College Lake, the Chief Minister said the site will soon offer water sports, children’s play zones, yoga practice areas, and walking paths. “There is a 2.5 km walkway around the lake. Entry has been kept at just ₹10, and it will remain open from 8 AM to 8 PM. This initiative will also help curb anti-social activities,” he noted. Dr. Saha also informed that the Howrah River Bank Development Project is nearing completion and will be inaugurated soon. Under the Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project, funded by ADB, infrastructure improvements — including sewage systems, water supply, and road construction — are underway across 12 urban local bodies with an allocation of ₹230 crore, to be completed within two years. The Chief Minister further revealed that work on the Unity Mall at Badharghat has begun — a dream project of Prime Minister Modi under the ‘One District, One Product’ initiative. Additionally, a five-star hotel with around 100 rooms will be constructed at Pushpawant Palace in collaboration with the Tata Group. “This will be a game-changer for the state. Our government’s aim is the holistic development of Tripura, beyond politics. We are also prioritizing health sector advancement,” Dr. Saha added. Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Urban Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, Agartala Smart City CEO Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, and other dignitaries attended the inaugural event.
