Fourth Successful Kidney Transplant at AGMC & GBP Hospital
NEBT NEWS DESK, AGARTALA, 9th September 2025 Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) & GBP Hospital has achieved yet another milestone by successfully completing its fourth kidney transplant. This remarkable feat was made possible under the initiative and constant efforts of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. On 8th September 2025, the team of specialist doctors at AGMC & GBP Hospital, in collaboration with experts from Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Manipur, successfully performed the transplant on a 23-year-old male patient from Rabindrapalli, Taranagar, West Mohanpur. In a moving gesture, the kidney was donated by the patient’s 45-year-old mother. Both donor and recipient are currently stable and recovering well. The kidney transplant team from AGMC & GBP Hospital included Consultant Nephrologists Dr. Manas Gop, Dr. Samaresh Pal, Dr. Reshmi Das, and Dr. Udayan Saha. From Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon Dr. Soumorendra Pounam and Dr. Maharabam Mahili contributed to the surgery. In addition, AGMC & GBP Hospital’s Consultant Urologists Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Bijit Lodh, and Dr. Jiban Debnath also played a key role. The anesthesia team comprised Dr. Kajol G. Momin and Dr. Gayatri S. Pillai from Shija Hospitals, along with Dr. Bhaskar Majumdar, Dr. Ranjit Reang, and Dr. Tapan Debbarma from AGMC & GBP Hospital. Supporting the procedure were OT nurses, floor nurses, and OT technicians. The transplant coordinator was Himadri Kar, while Senior Nursing Officer-in-Charge Tapati Chakraborty supervised the entire process. This successful fourth kidney transplant marks a significant step forward in advanced healthcare services within the state.
