Efforts Underway to Improve Doctor-Patient Ratio in Tripura: CM Govt Provided 20,036 Government Jobs, Says CM

CM Urges Doctors to Focus on Patient Care and Professional Conduct Agartala, Sept 26: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today emphasized that doctors are born to save lives and must dedicate themselves to the service of the common people, as their respect in society depends on the quality of care they provide. Speaking at the offer distribution ceremony for General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) and Librarian posts at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala, the CM said the state government has so far provided 20,036 government jobs, including die-in-harness appointments, ensuring complete transparency. “The government is working to fill up vacancies very quickly,” he added. At the event, Dr. Saha distributed appointment letters to 214 GDMSOs — 142 men and 72 women — and 12 librarians. Highlighting the importance of librarians, he noted that “no school can run without a librarian,” adding that libraries, including digital and e-libraries, play a vital role in nurturing students’ learning. Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, said, “A stethoscope is the ornament of doctors. There is respect attached to the stethoscope and white coat. Patients are the sufferers, and doctors must deal with them with patience and compassion.” He urged new recruits to remember the sacrifices of their families and guardians and to uphold values of humility and service. The CM also announced that efforts are being made to bring Tripura’s doctor-patient ratio closer to the standards of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). “More doctors will be appointed in the coming days,” he assured. The ceremony was attended by Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, NHM Mission Director Saju Wahid A, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Dr. Nirmal Sarkar, AGMC Principal Prof. Dr. Anup Kumar Saha, Director of Education N.C. Sharma, along with senior doctors and officials.
