Drone Technology Demonstration for Pest Management Held at Bishalgarh

Bishalgarh, Oct 23: In a progressive step towards modernizing agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sepahijala, CAU (I), Latiacherra, Tripura, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Government of Tripura, organized a drone technology demonstration programme at Bishalgarh MC, Chandan Nagar Gram Panchayat under Bishalgarh RD Block on October 23, 2025. The programme aimed to promote the use of drones for effective pest and disease management in farmers’ fields under the Bishalgarh agricultural subdivision. Timely pest control continues to be a major challenge for farmers seeking to enhance crop productivity, particularly in paddy fields affected by drought-like conditions. The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble MLA of Bishalgarh Constituency, Shri Susanta Deb, Smt Atashi Das, Chairman, Bishalgarh Panchayat Samiti, Dr. Bibhas Kanti De, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Sepahijala, Ar. Himanish Laskar, Superintendent of Agriculture, Bishalgarh, Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist & Head, Dr. Joy Kumar Dey, SMS (Agronomy), KVK Sepahijala, Ar. Prabir Datta, Agri Sector Officer, Bishalgarh, and several other officials. Around 50 farmers attended the demonstration, which showcased how drone technology ensures efficient and precise pesticide application, minimizing wastage and human exposure. The initiative also aims to support trainees in obtaining drone operation licenses, enabling wider adoption among farmers. Officials highlighted that drones can revolutionize pest management by reducing chemical use, saving labour, covering large areas quickly, and lowering health risks due to reduced direct contact with pesticides. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, and organized under the supervision of Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya; Prof. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education, CAU (I), Manipur; Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, CAU (I), Lembucherra, Tripura; and Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Sepahijala. The initiative marks a major step toward integrating cutting-edge technology into Tripura’s agricultural practices, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient farming future.
