CPI’s 25th Party Congress Concludes in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, September 25, 2025: The Communist Party of India (CPI) successfully concluded its 25th Party Congress today at Sudhakar Reddy Nagar, Atul Anjan Hall (Kisan Bhavan), Chandigarh. The five-day Congress, held from September 21–25, witnessed the participation of over 800 delegates from 27 states. Historic Inauguration The inaugural session began with the national flag hoisting by Prof. Jagmohan Singh, nephew of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, and the red flag hoisting by veteran Punjab CPI leader Bhupinder Singh Sambhar. CPI General Secretary D. Raja delivered the opening address. Leaders from other Left parties — CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby, CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, RSP General Secretary Manoj Bhattacharya, and Forward Bloc General Secretary Debrajan — attended the inaugural session and extended solidarity. The presence of Prof. Jagmohan Singh and renowned scholar Dr. Chaman Lal was a special highlight. A solidarity seminar was organized in the afternoon expressing strong support for Palestine and Cuba. Cultural Spirit Cultural performances by IPTA artists from Punjab and other states, including revolutionary songs and plays, inspired the delegates and reinforced the Party’s ideological spirit. Political & Organizational Discussions The third and fourth days were dedicated to political and organizational commissions, where representatives from 27 states discussed and debated the proposed reports. On the concluding day (September 25), outgoing General Secretary D. Raja delivered the reply speech. The session also paid homage to former CPI General Secretary A.B. Bardhan on his 101st birth anniversary. New Leadership & Committees Formed The Congress elected: National Council: 125 full + 13 alternate members National Executive: 31 members National Secretariat: 12 members (11 full + 1 invitee) Control Commission: 11 members, chaired by K. Narayana D. Raja was unanimously re-elected as CPI General Secretary. From Tripura, State Secretary Milan Baidya was elected as a member of the National Council. Six Major Resolutions Passed 1. Solidarity with Palestine – Condemning Israel’s genocidal war, apartheid policies, and illegal settlements; calling for ceasefire, lifting Gaza blockade, and creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. 2. Solidarity with Cuba – Condemning US blockade and sanctions; recognizing Cuba’s internationalist role; urging stronger India-Cuba cooperation. 3. On Natural Disasters & Relief – Criticizing BJP-led government’s weak disaster management; demanding national disaster declaration, fair compensation, debt waiver, and transparent relief measures. 4. GST Reform 2.0 – Opposing pro-corporate, anti-people taxation; calling for higher taxes on the rich and corporate houses, while protecting the lower and middle classes. 5. Universal Health Care – Reaffirming health as a fundamental right; demanding public health expenditure be raised to 6% of GDP, regulation of private sector, and affordable medicines for all. 6. Puducherry’s Inclusion in 16th Finance Commission – Demanding equal allocation of central funds to Puducherry as to the states. Commitment to Struggle Ahead In his concluding remarks, General Secretary D. Raja said: “This Congress has reaffirmed our Party’s commitment to uphold its ideals and continue the struggle against fascism, corporate exploitation, and communal politics. We will work together to strengthen people’s movements and Left unity.” The 25th Party Congress ended with a renewed pledge to build CPI’s strength, unite Left forces, and mobilize the masses against authoritarianism, corporate exploitation, and communal politics.
