Govt to strengthen prison reforms with skill development initiatives: CM Mental well-being of prison inmates must be prioritised: CM Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that, for the mental well-being of the inmates in the state's correctional institutions and jails, more sports activities and skill development training should be provided. “If they take skill development training, they will be able to earn money by engaging in various jobs after the completion of their sentence. Those who have returned to the mainstream after being released upon completion of their sentence should also be monitored regarding their future life,” he said. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this at a meeting organized on the reform and modernization of the Central Correctional Institution and state prisons at the TIFT Conference Hall today. During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that proper precautions should also be taken regarding the nutrition, treatment, and overall well-being of prison inmates. Prison Minister Santana Chakma, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, Secretary of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Abhishek Singh, IG (Prisons) Ashim Saha, and officials from various concerned departments participated in the discussion. During the meeting, Prisons Secretary Brijesh Pandey presented details about the number of inmates in various prisons, including the Central Correctional Institution, as well as food, medical facilities, reading materials such as books and newspapers, sports facilities, and other amenities available to inmates.
