CM Lays Foundation for Shija Super Speciality Hospital at RK Nagar Project to Boost Tripura’s Healthcare Infrastructure
Agartala, November 5: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today laid the foundation stone of the upcoming Shija Super Speciality Hospital at RK Nagar near Khayerpur, describing it as a milestone project that will significantly enhance Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saha said the new hospital will play a vital role in reducing the state’s dependency on outside medical facilities. “Even after introducing nine super-speciality services at GBP Hospital with an investment of Rs. 250 crore, patients still need to go outside the state for treatment. Doctors must continuously upgrade their skills to meet growing challenges,” he said. The Chief Minister highlighted that Shija Hospital has already earned a strong reputation across the northeastern region and its success in conducting kidney transplants has boosted confidence in Tripura’s healthcare potential. The state government has allocated around 28 acres of land for the project, which also includes a plan to set up a medical college. The total investment is estimated at Rs. 900 crore, Dr. Saha informed. Sharing his experience as the keynote speaker at a Forensic Odontology event at the National Forensic Sciences University, Ahmedabad, Dr. Saha announced plans to introduce Forensic Odontology at Tripura’s Forensic Sciences University as well. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s model of development in Gujarat, the Chief Minister said he has sought the cooperation of Gujarat’s Chief Minister to implement similar initiatives in Tripura that will generate employment for both tribal and non-tribal communities. “The establishment of Shija Hospital will benefit thousands of people in the surrounding areas and contribute to the region’s overall development,” Dr. Saha added. The ceremony was attended by MLA and former Speaker Ratan Chakraborty, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Dr. Palin Khundongbam (CMD, Shija Hospital), senior doctors, and Health Department officials.
