CM Attends High-Level Meeting to Strengthen Tourism in North East Tourism Holds Huge Potential for Employment, Revenue Generation: CM Dr. Saha Calls for Boosting Cultural and Religious Tourism Across NE States
Agartala, October 27: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today attended a high-level meeting of the Task Force convened to promote tourism development across the North Eastern states. The meeting, held at the conference hall of the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIT), was presided over by Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia. Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and other Chief Ministers of the North Eastern states also participated in the virtual meeting. During the meeting, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma presented a comprehensive draft report on tourism development in the North East. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted the significant progress achieved in Tripura’s tourism sector and underlined the vast potential of tourism for generating employment and revenue in the region. He stressed the importance of promoting cultural and religious tourism, improving connectivity infrastructure, enhancing investments, and ensuring tourist safety and hospitality across all North Eastern states. Dr. Saha further noted that the draft report effectively outlined the potential areas and strategic plans for tourism growth in the region. DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia mentioned that a similar draft report on trade development in the North East had earlier been presented under the chairmanship of the Tripura Chief Minister. He emphasized the need for states to adopt a national and global outlook while formulating their tourism development plans. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in his remarks, said that tourism is a key driver of both global and national economic growth. He urged all North Eastern Chief Ministers to take proactive steps to promote and showcase their states’ unique tourist destinations. The meeting was also attended by Secretary to Chief Minister Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Secretary of the Planning Department L.T. Darlong, Secretary of the Tourism Department U.K. Chakma, Director of Tourism Prashant Badal Negi, and other senior officials.
