ASSAM POLICE FOIL DRUG SMUGGLING ATTEMPT, SEIZE 3,000 BOTTLES OF ESKUF SYRUP AT CHURAIBARI
Churaibari, Assam | October 7, 2025: Despite using high-tech concealment methods, a major drug trafficking attempt was thwarted by Assam Police at the Churaibari check post. Acting on their routine inspection, the police intercepted a 12-wheeler truck bearing registration number AS01EC-0528, coming from Guwahati, and seized 3,000 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup—a banned narcotic substance—hidden inside fake electric meter boxes. According to Pranab Mili, In-charge of the Churaibari Watch Post, the truck arrived at the checkpoint around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. During a thorough search, officers discovered tin boxes designed to look like electric meters, which, upon opening, revealed thousands of bottles of Eskuf syrup concealed beneath East India Transport’s assorted goods and garments. The total black-market value of the seized narcotics is estimated at ₹30 lakh. The driver, identified as Mohammad Rais (50), son of Gol Mohammad and a resident of Motihari district in Bihar, has been arrested. Assam Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and initiated an in-depth investigation. Officials believe that the driver is merely a carrier and that a larger syndicate operating behind the scenes may soon be uncovered. Locals and law enforcement sources hailed the operation as another success for the Churaibari Police, who have shown exceptional vigilance in curbing interstate drug trafficking in the region.
