Asia’s One of the Tallest Clay-and-Straw Idols of Goddess Shyama Takes Shape in Teliamura — A Tribute to Naihati’s Iconic ‘Boro Ma’
Teliamura Correspondent: In a remarkable fusion of devotion, art, and tradition, one of Asia’s tallest clay-and-straw idols of Goddess Shyama is being crafted in Kalitila, under the Teliamura subdivision of Tripura. Standing at an impressive 51 feet, this grand idol is modeled after the legendary ‘Boro Ma’ idol of Naihati, a revered symbol of Bengal’s rich cultural heritage. Crafted using straw, clay, and bamboo, the idol reflects an eco-friendly approach rooted in traditional craftsmanship. The massive idol and its intricately designed pandal are being built with an estimated budget of ₹12 lakh. Speaking to the media, members of the Kalitila Yuba Sangha said, Our aim is not just to celebrate Kali Puja, but to showcase Bengal’s glorious culture and heritage. This idol symbolizes that very spirit. Built entirely from natural materials, it represents both devotion and sustainability.” As the festive season draws near, excitement among devotees and art enthusiasts is soaring. Many from across Tripura and neighboring regions are planning to visit Kalitila to witness the majestic idol of Goddess Shyama — a stunning blend of spirituality and artistry.
