920 Voters Join BJP in Tripura, Welcomed by Chief Minister Development of ADC Is Essential for Tripura’s Growth: CM BJP Working to Ensure Smiles and Progress for Tribal Communities: CM
Agartala, September 25: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today said that the overall development of Tripura is not possible without the development of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working with strong determination for the holistic progress of the tribal communities, which has brought visible change and happiness among them. As a reflection of this trust, 920 voters officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a joining programme organized at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala today by the state BJP unit. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Saha termed it a “historic day” and emphasized that people must take the right decisions at the right time. “For years, the tribal people were used for dirty politics. Our duty is to free them from that exploitation and ensure smiles on their faces,” he said. He recalled that serious efforts for tribal development began during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and after 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi further accelerated welfare schemes with the motto of reaching the last person in society. Dr. Saha highlighted that the strength of BJP in Tripura would increase further with today’s mass joining. “This government is working sincerely for the development of tribal communities and to ensure their rightful access to all benefits,” he added. Among the prominent new entrants was Paritosh Debbarma, former Zonal Chairman of Tipra Motha, a founding member of the party, and in-charge of Dhalai district’s Youth Tipra Federation. Debbarma said he joined BJP as he realized that development of the state and country is not possible without being part of a national party. The Chief Minister also underlined that nearly 68% of Tripura’s geographical area falls under the ADC and hence, the government has allocated ₹860 crore and more for its development. “We have never neglected the ADC. We have taken up projects to preserve heritage, like the Ujjayanta Palace, so that people can learn about the history of Tripura and its royal family,” he noted. He further mentioned that TCS-level officers have been appointed for effective implementation of welfare schemes, and the honorarium of community leaders has also been increased. Dr. Saha expressed pride that seven people from the tribal community of Tripura have received the Padma Shri award under the Modi government — not for electoral gains, but as recognition of their contributions. The joining programme was attended by Tripura BJP president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma, BJP Janajati Morcha president Parimal Debbarma, and several senior leaders.
