6.46 Lakh Families Get Tap Water Connections in Tripura Under JJM: CM State Achieves 86% Rural Drinking Water Coverage
NEBT News Desk, Agartala, September 19: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Friday announced that Tripura has provided tap water connections to 6,46,758 families under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) till September 15, 2025, covering 86.14% of rural households in the state. Replying to a private member’s resolution in the state assembly, Dr. Saha said the government is working in “mission mode” to ensure safe drinking water supply across both hilly and plain areas. “From just 3% earlier, pipeline-based drinking water connections now reach more than 86% of households across 587 ADC Village Councils and 606 Gram Panchayats,” he stated. Highlighting the progress under JJM, the Chief Minister informed that Tripura currently has 4,216 deep tube well projects, 10,176 small diameter deep tube wells, 40 surface water treatment plants, 1,831 iron removal plants, and 531 innovative projects. Efforts are also underway to utilize natural channels and springs to supply water in hilly regions. Dr. Saha added that the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department is monitoring project quality, raising awareness, and ensuring timely implementation. He also noted that JJM has now entered its 2.0 phase, as announced in the Union Budget 2025–26. Tripura has also established 21 NABL-certified water testing laboratories across districts and subdivisions to ensure quality standards. Citizens can raise water supply-related issues through the CM Helpline 1905 and the Amar Sarkar Portal for quick resolution, he added.
