10,000 Ganja Plants Destroyed in Anti-Drug Operation by Baijal Police

Agartala, September 27: In a major crackdown against illegal cultivation of cannabis, Baijal police under Khowai district carried out a successful anti-drug operation on Saturday morning. Acting on a tip-off, police along with TSR forces destroyed nearly 10,000 ganja plants across three areas – Kanchamati, Junia Colony, and Khengrabari. According to Officer-in-Charge Jugal Tripura, the operation was conducted across six plots spread over about two kanis of land under Padmabil block. The seized cannabis plants, including a nursery, were uprooted and set on fire at the spot. The police termed the action a significant step towards achieving a drug-free Tripura. Authorities also stressed that such drives will continue in the future to curb the menace of drug cultivation and save the youth from addiction. Intellectuals and social activists noted that besides police action, public awareness and community participation are essential to build a drug-free state.
